Collect the vehicle information
Record the year, make, model, trim, current mileage, VIN, color, equipment, modifications, and any known mechanical or cosmetic issues. Find ownership documents, loan information, service records, manuals, keys, and accessories. Accurate information makes the initial conversation more useful.
Clean for visibility, not concealment
Remove personal items, vacuum, wash the exterior, and clear cargo areas so condition can be seen. Avoid temporary products intended to hide warning lights, leaks, odors, or damage. An appraisal is subject to inspection, and undisclosed issues can change the final value.
Decide which repairs make sense
Small, inexpensive fixes may improve presentation, but large repairs do not always return their full cost. Request guidance before authorizing major work solely for an appraisal. Keep receipts and disclose remaining concerns.
Document condition with useful photos
Photograph all exterior sides in even light, wheels and tires, dashboard with mileage, seating rows, cargo space, and any damage. Photos support an initial review but cannot verify mechanical condition or replace an in-person inspection.
Understand the final appraisal
Value may reflect condition, mileage, equipment, demand, service evidence, previous use, title or ownership status, and current market information. The online result is an estimate. Final value requires inspection and document verification.
