Trade-in

Bring your current vehicle into the plan.

Start with accurate details, understand equity, and prepare for the inspection required to establish a final value.

Why trade in

A trade can consolidate the sale of a current vehicle with the next purchase and may provide positive equity toward the transaction.

Factors that affect value

Condition, mileage, equipment, service information, previous use, demand, ownership status, and inspection findings may matter.

Positive and negative equity

Value above verified payoff is positive equity. A payoff above value is negative equity and must be addressed in the transaction.

Trading a financed vehicle

A current payoff and lender process are required. Do not assume the statement balance is the final payoff.

Prepare the vehicle

Remove personal items, clean for visibility, gather keys and records, and accurately disclose issues or modifications.

Documents to bring

Ownership, registration, identification, lender information, payoff authorization, service records, and keys may be requested.

Inspection process

An appraiser verifies identity, mileage, equipment, cosmetic and mechanical condition, tires, brakes, and documentation as applicable.

Estimate versus final value

Online information supports an initial estimate only. Final value requires physical inspection and ownership verification.

Online results are estimates. Final trade value requires an in-person inspection, current mileage, ownership verification, and review of applicable payoff information.

Trade-in FAQ.

Can I trade a vehicle with a loan?

Potentially. Current payoff and ownership details must be verified, and any positive or negative equity must be addressed.

Does an online estimate lock the value?

No. Condition, mileage, documents, market context, and inspection findings may change the final value.

Should I repair damage first?

Large repairs may not return their cost. Disclose the issue and ask for guidance before authorizing work solely for appraisal.

What if I have negative equity?

Options depend on the amount, applicant, vehicle, and financing. Adding a permitted amount to new financing increases cost and risk.
